Monday Afternoon at Dallas Union Terminal

After lunch of the usual Frisco Melt and fries at SnS in Plano, I headed to downtown Dallas and Dallas Union Terminal.

When I got to track level, I discovered Trinity Railway Express 125 on Track 3 with 2 bi-level cars.
This is the control-cab end of the TRE train.

Here we see the first light rail commuter for me at Dallas Union Terminal (DUT).

This plaque on the platform of DUT hints at the event which took place 3 blocks north on Nov. 22, 1963. For more pictures of that area go to Dealey Plaza.

The TRE train is seen leaving DUT.

Next came this Red Line light rail train.

Next came a Blue train.

DUT is next door to the Reunion Tower of Dallas and the associated hotel and convention center.

The next Blue Line train had one set of cars decorated in Maverick Blue.

Along the fence line between the terminal building and the track platforms are tributes to the named trains that once stopped at DUT.

I almost missed this Red Train.

Located on the platform is this map of the DART system. Click for larger view

While walking back to my car, I spotted the old Mobil Oil Flying Horse Pegasus on top of one of the older downtown buildings. This is a symbol of Dallas from my childhood. I also found the Republic National Bank building with its searchlight on a tower on top which one could see for a very long distance during my childhood. It is now so surrounded by taller building that I could not even get a good picture.

Here we see the fountain across Houston Street from the front door of Dallas Union Terminal.

Another Red Line train.

My first freight of the day was a UP west bound with 10 units.

Next is a Blue Line train.

Another Blue Line train.

Next was an inbound TRE from Ft. Worth.

Here is another Red Line Train.

Yet another Red Line train.

And then a Blue Line train going the other way.

Then a Red Line train arrived to meet another Red Line train with the TRE looking on.

The next action was the TRE train leaving.
In the distance is seen a Blue Line train arriving at DUT.

Next was a Red Line train.

Amtrak must be getting close as the woman with the baggage is heading for track 5.

A DGNO train is passing DUT as a Red Line train is approaching its stop.

The Red Line train is now seen leaving DUT and meets a TRE arriving.

The TRE then appears from behind the DGNO freight, showing 3 trains with the DART Red Line disppearing.

Here comes the Blue Line train with the car decorated in honor of the NBA Mavericks.

When the DGNO fright cleared, Amtrak "Texas Eagle" is waiting for a signal on the wrong track to enter the station.

While the Amtrak is disappearing to the east to then back into DUT, a Red Line train is entering the station.

A Red Line train is arriving at DUT as the Amtrak train is backing into track 5.
A second Red Line train is seen entering the station as the Amtrak train continues to back into the station.

The TRE train is seen leaving for Ft. Worth.

The last shot of the day was of the end of DUT showing the Amtrak train still in the station.
