50 Years of Railroad Photography |
On my way back to Tahlequah after a week end of A&M, I headed for Siloam Springs, AR. As I approached Siloam, the radio crackled with a message from a detector reporting on a southbound. As I was going up the elevation of the KCS overpass, I spotted a loaded unit coal train with 2 UP units on the point. I headed for Watts. Before I got there I caught up with the DPU, a single UP. The train did not stop at Watts so I gave chase. Shortly I spotted 2 gray KCS units mid-train. I finally got ahead of him and got the following at MP 329. |
Mid-train were 2 KCS units in gray acting as additional DPU units. |
At the end of the trains was a single UP unit working as another DPU. |
I then headed toward Westville, OK where I caught this view at the northern most grade crossing. |
When I arrived at Stillwell, OK, I positioned myself in about the middle of the passing siding. I notice that the southbound CTC signals were red, and I suspected that there would be a meet. Soon I heard this northbound approaching out of sight. I then saw it take siding and note that the second unit was a "Retro Belle".. |
Meanwhile the unit coal train is slowly pulling down the main. |
The locos of the two trains are now seen approaching each other. |
We then see the northbound power over the top of the coal train as they approach the mid train DPU units. |
I then jumped into my car and head north to shoot the mid-train DPUs. |
and then the rear DPU and the power of the northbound train. |
I then catch the northbound past the north end of the passing track as it accelerates. |
