Using information from a friend, I headed west to intercept UP1995, the C&NW Heritage unit. In Wynne, AR I hear Dispatcher 16 tall UP7633 that they will have a wait before they can proceed. In exploring Wynne, I discover this lease unit sitting south of downtown. |
This unit was about 2 blocks north of the first. |
When I first spotted this unit it was west of town. When it came into down, it dropped its cars on a siding and then ties up next LLPX #2254. |
I then headed north on AR #1 and discovered UP1995 between crossings north of the US 64 crossing. |
I then headed back into town to wait out the release of the train by the dispatcher. I went to the former location of the MP station where the east-west line once crossed the north-south line. The first view is looking north from the location where the lines once crossed. |
The next view shows where the tracks once headed south. That line is now served by a former leg of the wye from the west. |
Theis view is looking west. Note that there is a track leading to the left and another to the right. |
The last view is looking east where the line from the north ties into the east-west line. |
This is the foundation area of the former MP station. |
Just before 1330 hours, the dispatcher tells the crew on UP #7633 that they can proceed on signal indication. |
And the chase is on! |
The train is seen here crossing the St. Francis River. |
Here we see the view looking east at Parkins siding. |
The train is seen here moving at track speed by the Parkin siding. |
The chase ended in Marion with the arrival of the train at the west end of the yard, AR #147. |
Not only is Marion the location of UP's intermodal yard, but it is also the location for a coal train inspection/repair facility. The former Frisco Harvard Yard first played host to the ATSF intermodal yard for Memphis and now this coal train facility. The BNSF intermodal yard has completely moved to Tennessee Yard in Memphis, and it is now used to store "mouth-balled" locomotives. |
BNSF "mouth-balled" locomotives |
The following KCS units were found in the NS Forrest Yard in Memphis. |
With a move from Memphis pending, we decided to see some things that we had never visited, thus a trip to Oxford, MS. The former Mississippi Central/Illinois Central Station is located on the Ole Miss campus and is used as a guest center. |
On our drive back to Memphis, we explored Holly Springs, MS. There we found this former Mississippi Central/Illinois Central Station and freight house near its connection with the Frisco. |
Upon returning to Memphis, we paused at Tennessee Yard where this empty unit coal train was pulling north on the Shelby Main past the new intermodal facility. |
The "repair in place gaget" was sitting at the north end of the new intermodal yard. |
On our drive back to Memphis, we passed this Sperry Rail Service rail defect detector running on US 78 rather than rail. We caught up with it again at the Winchester at Lamar traffic light. |
