This series of page covers a trip to Wisconsin. This page began as a single page but the second day of the trip was so successful that I have divided the single page into 3 parts. Part 1 is below and covers the journey north to Rochelle and a couple h ours on Saturday. Part 2 covers the next day, Sunday Feb. 28. Part 3 covers the return trip to Memphis with some time in St. Louis. |
The first train that I got at Rochelle on my way back to Memphis was this intermodal. It was the first time that I had shot a train with the DPU other than at the end since the days of "slaves" on the KCS of the '60s. For one thing, there was less snow. A lot of it had melted. Another was that someone had built a snowman that shows in the corner of the first shot. |
The next train was a general freight with two NS units. |
The first BNSF train was this eastbound intermodal. |
The signal for a westbound movement on track #1 shows a "clear" in this view. Westbounds usually use track #2. |
Was this snowman built by a railfan or one of their kids? |
This westbound intermodal is taking the "clear" signal on track #1. This train had a long section of K-Line containers and 2 units as DPUs on the rear. |
The last train in Rochelle was this eastbound BNSF that caught me out of position as it sped by. |
With a morning to shoot in St. Louis, my first subject was Union Station. |
I found this loaded unit coal train sitting just west of Grand Ave. of the Metrolink station. |
I then found a dead-end street that ended at the track to shoot this westbound Metrolink train. |
This eastbound is first seen at the station at Grand Ave. and then leaving. |
For the Kalmbach employees, notice that this is car #1027 in the lead. |
Another eastbound Metrolink. |
An empty UP unit coal train then appeared. |
The following views are of Lindenwood Yard. The first shot shows where the roundhouse and backshop had once stood. The second shot shows the Yard Office area. The third shot shows a switcher set working a train. |
Here we see the former Frisco station at Webster Grove. |
The view shot shows the end of the former Frisco double track looking east at Valley Park. The second shot shows the view looking west from a couple of block east. The third shot is of the UP, left, and BNSF, right lines toward St. Louis. The last shot is of the Frisco Hotel across the street from the end of double track. |
On the other side of the tracks from the Frisco Hotel is a park dedicated to remembering the Frisco. The display includes a plaque and caboose. |
After leaving Frisco Park, I spotted a loaded coal train on the UP at Valley Paark. |
