While driving down Southern Ave. on my way to Kentucky Street, I ran into this NS freight when I decided to continue to the crossing at the west end. |
Upon arrival at Kentucky Street, a crew of BNSF welders were working on the Main 2 diamond. |
The first train was a UP freight going to the CNIC. However, it had trouble, having to hand throw the power switches of the crossovers to get to the BNSF track and eventually to the CNIC. |
The next train is a BNSF stack train which meets a CSX stack transfer for the UP intermodal terminal in Marion, AR. |
The CSX transfer then slowly makes its way west before I head to Tennessee Yard to catch the BNSF stack train there. |
The stack train is now seen entering the north end of the Tennessee Yard's new Intermodal Terminal. The train stops at the crossing at the end of the terminal and waits for the attachment of the "radio antenna". The train then resumes its trip into the yard. |

Upon leaving Tennessee Yard, I discovered this unit tied up just off the BNSF main line. |
This empty unit coal train was stopped at Cooper Street west of Forrest Yard. |
A loaded unit coal train with a KCS "Retro Belle" is seen headed east with new "rapid discharge" cars. |
The next train was this NS stack train which, after passing a flashing red, headed down the NS eastbound track on Broadway. |
The "approach" signal over Main 2 turns out to be for a general freight with 3 units, the middle of which is a CP unit. It uses the crossover to go from Main 1 to Main 2. |
The NS transfer to the CNIC met the inbound BNSF freight before taking the wye at CN Jct. |
The coal train that I had shot at Cooper Street has finally progressed to Tower 17. |
Upon leaving the CBU campus, I turned east on Avery and found this CSX train at the crossing. |
I then headed for Southern Ave. At the west end, I found this UP switching an industry along side of the NS main. |
I then back tracked to the Malory St. crossing of the NS and headed west. The BNSF signal for Main 1 was "clear" so I searched for a safe off-street parking. The BNSF train had NS power. |
I then headed for Kentucky Street. As I crossed Virginia Street, I spotted a UP switcher on the lead to President's Island. The switches were all aligned for it to return to its main on Broadway, but it took several minutes and a radio call to the UP asking them to contact the BNSF Memphis Terminal Dispatcher to get a signal. |
On my way to CBU to pick up my mail, I spotted a white Ford pickup being chased by 3 police cruisers on East Parkway . When I got to Central Ave., a Sheriff deputy jumped the curb and started driving on the median. When I parked in front of the Science Center, I heard a 5th siren. When I got to Kentucky Street, Copter 5 was orbiting. I later learned that traffic had allowed the police to stop the white pickup and arrest its driver, wanted for murdering his mother. The arrest was at Riverside Drive and Carolina, three blocks from me. |
The next train was a BNSF freight which appeared to have come from the River Division and Blyville, AR from the amount of steel products. Nucor Steel has a big plant on a branch east of town. |
After the BNSF freight passed, a UP truck pulled up and dropped off track supplies. |
The last train was the NS transfer to the CNIC at CN Jct. |
A UP track inspector got permission to run on the main to Wynne, AR. |
