Engines around headquarters in Springdale, AR. |
T6 #15 still sits on the back track. |
Also on that back track were these spare ALCo engines acting as a parts supply. |
The A&M excursion makes a turn to Winslow, AR once it reaches Van Buren, AR. |
While the A&M made its turn to Winslow, I caught this eastbound UP freight at Alma, AR. |
Back in Van Buren, these lease units were sitting in the engine terminal. |
The Winslow turn is seen here returning to Van Buren. |
When the train arrives in Van Buren, the train has to be made ready for the trip back to Springdale. |
First the caboose has to be set over on the siding. |

The engine then returns to pick up the coaches before coupling up the caboose, returning to the mainline, and then the station. |
With our grandson staying with us, Jan and I headed to Kansas Ave. to watch trains even with bad westher and poor lighting. First we got a CSX off the UP and then a BNSF intermodal. The CSX pulled up and parked. The BNSF pulled up to the signal and stopped to await a signal before proceeding. As usual there were a few trailers on the end of the train. |
The next train was the BNSF taconite train heading back north for more iron ore. I could not tell if it had a return load of coal. In the mean time a UP loeaded coal train has pulled up along side the CSX and stopped waiting for the BNSF to clear so it can go to the CN. |
The CSX train finally gets a signal and heads down its track with a "flashing red" at CN Jct. |
This stack train was parked in White Siding in east Memphis. |
This NS train is seen at Central Ave. in Metairie, LA coming off the Huey P. Long bridge. |
We see a downtown bound car on the St. Charles Street line. |

Shortly after taking this picture, I was approached by a couple of New Orleans uniformed police officers who insisted that I could not take pictures of the station under orders from Homeland Security. While explaining that they had bad information, my train was called and as a ticketed sleeping car passenger, I walked away to board my train ahead of the coach passengers. |
Amtrak is using more LED lighting in their refurbished equipment such as this reading light in my sleeper compartment. |
