An empty BNSF unit coal train is seen at Kentucky Street Memphis. An eastbound freight is seen on the other mainline. Unseen in the first images is another BNSF empty unit coal train on the eastbound "Southern" track on Broadway. While this train progressed west a third empty unit coal train pulled up on the westbound "Southern" track.

The second empty BNSF empty unit coal train starts west and pauses for several minutes just after the lead unit crosses the IC. As the DPU comes into view, a NS transfer run comes around the corner on the BNSF south main.

The NS transfer pulls up to the signal for CN Jct and stops for several minutes before proceeding to the IC connection. The consist is quite colorful with a NS uint out front, following by a unit in Conrail blue, and then a CN/IC unit trailing.

Hearing an eastbound freight, I decided to move to Kansas Ave. for a better coming shot. MISTAKE. As I get to Crump Blvd and start to turn onto Riverside Drive, I see that the headend of the train is already past me. Oh well.

That third empty unit coal train never got recrewed before I had to leave.
