The following photos were all taken over a three day weekend trip to western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma starting with a trip to Fayetteville, AR.

Upon arriving in Fayetteville on Friday 1/4/08, I discover these two A&M units at Fayette Jct. It appears that they were having trouble with the air hose on #34, the trailing unit.

The former Frisco station in Fayetteville is now a mini-mall shopping area on Dickson Street.

This NS unit was at Van Buren on 1/5/08.

This southbound (eastbound by direction) mixed freight is pulling up to the east end of the yard in Van Buren, 1/5/08.

KCS 708 is seen southbound at Spiro, OK on 1/5/08.

KCS #4040 and #4050 are seen on the head of a southbound freight at the fuel rack in Heavener, OK, 1/5/08.

KCS #4581 is seen headed north with an empty coal train at Heavener, OK, 1/5/08.

All trains passing through Heavener, OK get fueled. Here we see a southbound freight still sitting at the fuel rack while the DPU unit on the rear of an empty coal train pulls up to be refueled, 1/5/08.

These are the DPU units of a loaded coal train sitting on the main in Heavener, OK, 1/5/08.

The DPUs of the northbound coal train have now left the fueling pad.

Here we see the DPUs of the empty coal train on the east track leaving Heavener on its way to Howe, OK for a meet with a southbound general merchandize train.

After holding off crossing, the northbound empty coal train behind KCS #4581 approaches the north end of North Howe passing track as KCS extra #708 south approaches the former RI crossing. and the meet. We then see the DPUs of the northbound at the spot of the former KCS-RI diamond.

With the aid of the new bypass at Poteau, I was able to get ahead of the empty coal train just north of Poteau, OK, 1/5/08.

While waiting for trains in Sallisaw, OK, I heard a KCS trainand gave chase to find a solid train of new KCS covered hoppers with a retro Belle unit as the DPU. I caught up with the train just beyond the I40 overpass and near where there once was a siding that my uncle used to unload heavy machinery for the Sallisaw Stripping Co.

The last train of the day was the "Catch of the Day". It was somewhat disappointing that the road power was not in the new retro Belle but the DPU was. This solid train of covered hoppers in the new "Belle" color scheme was beautiful in the late afternoon sun on this warm January 5, 2008 between Sallisaw and Gans, OK. Sorry I did not get a car count.

Here we see the DPU UP #6695 sitting on the mainline at the Main Street crossing in Van Buren, AR where it got refueled. Note the Arkansas and Missouri crossing in the distance on their approach to their bridge. The A&M track from the bridge is the third track in the foreground.

These units were in the engine service area in Van Buren, AR, 1/6/08.

UP #6744 north was being helt out of the yard when I first found it at the east end of the Van Buren, AR yard. The first shot shows the train after it pulled up, awaiting permission from the yardmaster to enter. After another train pulled out of the north end of the yard, this train pulled forward and met a loaded coal train on the mainline, 1/6/08.

The coal train with UP #5860 on the point pulls up to the east end of the yard for refueling from a tank truck, 1//6/08.

The north bound freight has now pulled to the Main Street crossing in Van Buren where a southbound freight with UP #4647 waits for the loaded coal train to finish fueling and clear the mainline, 1/5/08.

The loaded coal train is now seen at the community of the community of Shibley climbing the grade towards Alma, AR, 1/6/08.

UP #7667 north is seen just west of Dyer siding where it met UP #5690 south with the loaded coal train, 1/6/08.

This SW1 was sitting under the State 7 bridge at N. Dardanelle, AR shop area of the Dardanelle and Russellville railroad, 1/6/08.
