There is still a cross lake car ferry operating out of Manitowoc, WI. The ferry arrives at its western port at 10:30pm when it is on time. This night it was running about 20 minutes late. Even on July 27, 2007, it is very dark by that hour.

National Railroad Museum
Green Bay, WI

The National Railroad Museum is doing a fine job. They have a nice exhibition hall with several of their prizes inside. As all such musuems in the US, they have more pieces of rolling stock than they can house under cover, but most of the pieces are atleast under a roof. It is well worth your time and money.

North Fond du Lac, WI

On our way back to Madison, we dropped by North Fond du Lac and the location os the former main maintenance facility of the former Wisconsin Central, now part of the Canadian National system. When we got to the tracks at Subway Road, this freight was doubling back into the yard. As is the case so often these days, one can not tell whose railway you are alongby looking at the locomotives with so many run through trains that do not change power when they change railroads.

This freight was sitting on the "Valley Line" just north of Subway Road.

At the yard office crossing, there were a couple of sets of switchers including this set of GT geeps.

This set of switchers are both still in the Wisconsin Central colors, although the lettering is basically faded away.

On the other hand, this WC SW1500 wears new paint as a member of the CN family.

Continuing again to Madison we chase this freight up Byron Hill to the small village of Byron.
