On the week-end of April 27-29, I flew to Little Rock from O'Hare and then drove to Alma, AR to check on my great aunt. After visiting with my Mother on April 28, 2007, I drove to downtown Van Buren and discovered this passenger train returning from its turn to Winslow. The C420 #44 then proceeded to trade ends of its train and back the train into the station. |
At the former MP engine servicing area in Van Buren, I discovered the shiny Geep. |
I also spotted this patched SP unit. |
At the refueling site at the end of Main Street we see this north bound general merchandise train sitting on the mainline. |
Upon returning to Wisconsin, I had a speaking engagement in Brookfield, WI (suburban Milwaukee). I arrived early enough to do some exploring. While stopped at a traffic light at North and Pilgrim, the crossing bells started to ring, the flashers started to flash, and the gates started to drop. Then this eastbound stack train appeared. |
After visiting with friends at Kalmbach Publishing in Waukesha, I headed track side to Duplainsville and the crossing of CP (formerly SOO, before that MILW mainline to the NW) is crossed by the CN (formerly WC, earlier SOO, even earlier the SOO subsidary WC). The tower once stood on the NW corner of the crossing. The crossing and associated crossovers are governed by the three-headed searchlight signals. The Duplainsville Road crossing is protected by this classic mid western crossing gate equipment box/mast combination. Just west of the crossing is this speed limit sign for passenger trains (Amtrak #7 "Empire Builder"), top "79"mph and freight trains , "50"mph. |
The first train was this northbound general merchandize train with NS power on the CN, former WC line. |
Next was the power for the local returning to Waukesha to tie up after dropping its cars just north of Duplainsville. |
The Amtrak #7, the "Empire Builder", left Milwaukee on time and passed Duplainville at 4:23pm. |
Before leaving for Steak 'n Shake and dinner with the Ingles, I caught the empty rock train returning with an ex-GM&O SD40 running long hood forward at Greene Road just after crossing the CP mainline. The ex-CN ore cars are now lettered SSAM for the WC subsidary. |
Jan and I took a tour of Wisconsin to see Sheboygan because we live in an apartment on Sheboygan St. in Madison. On our way we passed through Horicon and I got this shot of the station. I also shot this long string of commuter cars. I then shot the very shiny L&N diner Galt House #2726. I then shot a view of the contents of the yard. |
On the return we pass through North Fond du Lac where we find this SW1500 in front of the yard office. The SW1500 is mu-ed to this GP38-2. |
This SD40 was on an southbound freight in the "marsh yard". |
We then drove to the north end of the yard and then turned on to Subway Road. There I discovered a CN freight crossing the road in the distance so we turned around and headed to the Highway N crossing about a mile north. Upon getting out of the car there, I spot headlights through the trees of a southbound train on the "valley line", headed by a pair of NS GE units.. |
Upon returning to the north end of the yard, we discovered that the three CN units were doubling their train and shoving a cut of cars south into the yard. |
