54 Years of Railroad Photography |
This north bound freight is seen just south of the yard at the MidAmerica Industrial Park south of Pryor, OK. |
This switcher was working the MidAmerica Industrial Park and blocking US 69. |
This BNSF ballast train was working across US 66 from Suburban Chevrolet in south Claremore, OK as we were looking at possible Equindoxs. We ended up letting them locate one that matched our list of requirements. |
While making the deal on our new car, this westbound vehicle train passed our location. It was difficult to shoot through gaps in the traffic on US 66. |
This was our trade-in. I will have shots of the new Equinox when I pick it up. |
This minature loco sits at the send of a siding in the Mid-America Industrial Park south of Pryor, OK. This appears to be a Vulcan loco. |
This consist was switching the lead to Mid-America Industrical Park. Note that the 3rd unit has no radiator fans! |
Is this a slug coupled to UP 1429? There are no radiator fans! |
Upon heading into Pryor, I discovered this stopped loaded unit coal train stopped, blocking at least one grade crossing and trying to hide behind rows of trees. |
Upon arriving in Claremore, I missed this north bound train at the crossing of the BNSF. |
My next train was this stopped empty unit coal train which was blocking most of the crossings in downtown Claremore. Notice the snow from the day before. |
The unit empty unit coal train finally got moving very slowly because of the mechanized gang working on the BNSF track in Claremore including the crossing shown in these shots. |
We next see the DPUs crossing the BNSF and then accelerating north. |
I then had lunch at Whataburger and picked up our new car, photo will follow. I then headed toward home down OK88 and found this train in the 4-lane section north of Inola, turned the new car around and caught the train back on the 2-lane part of the highway where I caught this 8-unit led train. |
I finally got into some sun shine and paused to take this picture of our new Chevy 2015 Equinox. |
I did not take the most direct route back to Tahlequah, trying to break in the new car the old way, changing the speed on a regular basis. I even went through Muskogee and stopped at the Military Museum in the industrial park where the USS Batfish is located. I remember well when this submarine made its trip up the Arkansas River. The word around The College of the Ozarks campus in Clarksville, AR was that a submarine was spotted off Spadra Park. |
This shot at the A&M shops was taken on my monthly trip to Springdale for the NRHS meeting. |
A&M SD70ACe #71 still shows signs of its derailment in the washout near Chester, AR. |
These trimmer units were working a train in the bowl of Cherokee Yard in west Tulsa. |
These units were sitting next to the former location of the tracks for unloading new autos. |
These units were down in the bowl of Cherokee Yard. |
On my way to Tulsa for lunch with my cousins and to give a talk to the Tulsa Garden Railroad Club, I appied the 10min rule. I then started to leave but discovered this north bound welded rail train on the former MKT heading out on the former MP track. It was sooooooo............... cold that I took the photos sitting in the car. |
I took OK 51 instead of the Muskogee Turnpike to Broken Arrow. As I way leaving Coweta, I spotted the "MKT" local returning to Muskogee. It had 3 lease units as power. |
The former MV overpass over Riverside Drive is scheduled to be removed on Sat. Feb 28, 2015 as part of the preparation for the "Gathering Place" park. |
When I got to the Hot Spot at 17th Street in west Tulsa, I found these trimmer units. |
The trimmer set heads back into the yard as an eastbound is seen coming around the wye from the Ardmore Sub. |
The freight is then seen heading for 17th street and the river bridge. |
The train backs into the receiving yard after clearing the 17th St crossing. |
I next discovered this unit working the north end of the WAMX yard. |
These units headed east up the hill just past Utica Ave. |
Channel 6 News in Tulsa did a story about the destruction of the Midland Valley bridge on their news. These photos are from those reports. |
We had a meeting in the Frisco Station in Ft Smith to plan the National Train Day 2015. The bumpout seen here was added many years after the station was used as a passenger station. Note the window on the lower level, has a Frisco "coonskin herald" etched in the glass. |
This plaque is located next door on the grounds of the 1846 Commissary building of the second fort at Ft Smith. It is based on a painting by fellow railroad enthusiast and professional artist, John Bell. |
While waiting for the meeting to start, I caught this KCS loco passing the station twice, once coming from the direction of the A&M, former Frisco yard, and once heading in that direction with a string of cars. |
