The freight F-units were delivered in a reverse of the Belle scheme. They wee eventually repainted red and yellow, then red, and finally white. |

These units had been moving along at a crawl on the Ft. Smith and Van Buren branch of the KCS, originally the Ft. Smith & Western line toward Oklahoma City. They had been setting grass fires with the sparks coming out the stacks. I had been listening to them on the radio. At one point the man in the door stated that the units had set his hair on fire. I talked to him while they were switching here. I asked if he was alright. He said "What do you mean?" I said "Your hair." He then wanted to know how I knew. |
