With the prospect of the fall weather continuing what would become a truly record-breaking string of warm and all-sunny days, smashing records for percent of sunshine and high temps in early October (80’s, down to 60’s at night), some of which had stood since the 1930s Depression, Carol and I drove from home to La Crosse, Wis., on Wed., Oct. 5, to spend a couple of days driving down the Mississippi River valley, alive with vivid fall colors approaching their peak. Our goal, of course, was to shoot as many trains against fall color backgrounds as possible. We left home at 9:30 a.m., and while rail traffic on the CP, which we generally followed, was light, we made the best of it that we could. |
