The following narrative was written by Mr. H. E. Huber. "Sometime in the late 1942 Engine 85 that was assigned to the Spiro-Ft Smith branch was re-flued at Heavener, but when repairs were competed for some reason or another, was assigned to the Spiro-McCurtain branch. That's when the parade of foreign engines arrived at Ft. Smith. First to appear was the Monon engine. It broke so many rails in the Ft Smith yards the KCS hustled it out of town real quick like. Neither Charles nor I saw the engine. That Monon picture is one that was similar, it is NOT the one that was actually used one day at Ft Smith and then was gone."

"Next was the C&EI engine. Notice how much it looked like the Frisco 3700s switch engines. The Frisco and C&EI had a close relationship back then."

"Next was KCT 23, the one with the odd looking coal bunker on the tender."

"Then the two Frisco engines alternated with each other. Their numbers were 3653 and 3654."
