Boeing B-29 Flying Fortress "FIFI"
by Mike Condren

Confederate Air Force B-29 "FIFI" was at the Millington Regional Jetport on August 7, 2011.

Flying Escort

This P51 was flying escort.

Also flying escort was this Royal Navy Hawker "Sea Fury". This plane is stationed at General Dewitt Spain airport in Memphis.

When I arrived, the B-29 was being prepared for flight. However, the P-51 had its cockpit covered and no one worked on it during the 2 hours that I was there.

I got surprized by the "Sea Fury" taking off and got only a going away shot before it returned for a low pass.

All of the extra equipment and flags are gone from the area in these views.

These shots of the nose show the crew preparing for their flight back to the Dallas area.

The airport crash truck arrived about 9am for the engine starts. Before trying to start each engine, it is rotated several revolutions.

Now for engine start, one at a time.

"FIFI" begins to move towards the runway.

The B-29 then begins its take-off roll followed by the lift-off and circle toward Dallas.
