Sunday July 22, 2012 Ride Chicago to St. Louis

This is the switcher that moved our car into Union Station to await coupling it to the back of the Amtrak "Texas Eagle".
Here is our car parked by itself in Union Station.

This train was on a track toward the River on the south end of Union Station.

I ventured outside and crossed the Adams Street bridge to get this picture.

This is the entrance to Union Station where I stood many an hour over the last 15+ years waiting for the Thru-way bus to Madison during my working days at the University of Wisconsin.

Here is the view from the Canal Street entrance of the stairway seen in the gun battle in the movie "The Untouchables".

Upon returning to our car, I find that the "Texas Eagle" has now backed into our track in Union Station.

Going outside again, I get this shot of a river taxi.
This is a view of the top of the Chicago Board of Trade building as seen from Union Station. This globe is at the base of what once was the Sears Tower. Another view down the Chicago River.
Here is another river taxi.
This is the river side entrance to Union Station

The Amtrak "Cardinal" arrived on the track next to us with its extra equipment from Beech Grove Shop.

A man is connecting out car into the "Texas Eagle".
Our train is now made up and ready to depart Chicago for St. Louis.

This is the view from the vestibule end of the car.

This train was on an adjoining track as we left Union Station.

Our train is seen weaving out of Union Station.

Here we see the St. Charles Air Line crossing over the BNSF triple track and Metra downtown yard.
This is the south leg of the wye looking at the BNSF triple track.

This pair of UP engines are parked just south of the tracks which lead to the former ATSF tracks toward Joliet.

This lease unit is in the intermodal yard south of Union Station.

Here is another view of U S Cellular Field, home of the Chicago White Sox.

Here we see the whole train as it rounds this curve.

We met this inbound NS freight in South Chicago.

We then flew over the CN-IC mainline.

We had a major delay when on the "Unlimited Parking" we were nailed by this "important" northbound.

These were in a yard north of Tuscola, IL

As we crossed the CN-IC in Tuscola, IL, there was a northbound train waiting south of the crossing.
Here is the crossing and CSX junction as seen through the US45 overpass.
Look carefully and you can see the power for a CSX train waiting at the crossing in Tuscola, IL
As if that was not enough action at Tuscola, we then met a northbound UP freight, a 4-way meet!!!!

We were then back in Arthur, IL and this Welcome Center. We also passed this Amish farm house south of town.

The sunset over my trip as we reached the east side of the Mississippi River opposite St. Louis.

Some views of downtown St. Louis at dusk.

On the west side of the river we passed Busch Stadium.

My trip ended in the Amtrak station. Here we see the engine being refueled.

Some station scenes in St. Louis.

This westbound Metrolink passed by in the dark heading for Amtrak station stop.

The "Texas Eagle" then pulled us a few blocks west and uncoupled us in front of St. Louis Union Station as seen from our car.

With the trip over, I prepared to leave for Memphis to finish our move to OK. However, I noticed the "Texas Eagle" making its early morning arrival.

Here we see my gear outside the car.

Here we see St. Louis Union Station from the car in daylight.

On my way out of town, I passed the Third Base entrance to Busch Stadium. This trip was made complete with a picture of the "Stan the Man" statue.
