I got a report around noon on Memphis Rail Fans that BNSF Officer's Special O-ENIAMO 2-11 (Enid, OK to Amory, MS) was headed down the Thayer sub. I headed to Kentucky Street and waited. The first train was this local headed to West Memphis and the industries south of Bridge Jct.

I discovered something new at Kentucky Street today, a new radio antenna that I assume that it is for PTC (Positive Train Control).

The next train was a UP loaded unit coal train. It pulled up and stopped at the BNSF signal governing the crossover between the UP and the north BNSF track. It waited several minutes before proceeding through that crossover.
The train then took the crossover from the north to south BNSF tracks.
The train then took the west leg of the sissor wye onto the CN at CN Jct.
I observed that the air hoses used in dumping the coal loads are mostly not connected between cars.
The DPU is then seen framed by the BNSF cantilever signal and the Kansas Ave. industiral siding signals.
and then the DPU passes and heads off on the CN tracks.

I knew something was headed my way when I got this signal for the north BNSF track at CN Jct.

The train appeared around 2:30pm.
The NS transfer is seen heading east on the south BNSF track while the business train heads east on the north track.

On our way to Shreveport to meet our daughter and pick up our grandson for a week in OK, we drove through rain much of the way. Jan needed a pit stop in Howe, OK. While she was in the convenience store, I headed to the AOK/KCS junction to shoot the junction and the AOK locomotive parked on the interchange track.

Between the rain and our rush to get to Shreveport, this was the only other train shot on the south bound trip.

Dec. 27, 2011

Our first shot of any railroad equipment on the north bound trip was this ditcher/Jordan spreader consist in the stub track at Rich Mountain.

The return trip was also not very productive railroad wise. We saw several trains but missed shots of the locomotives until we got to Page, OK where we saw a train in the passing track. Upon heading to the "lunch room", we discovered a work train in the stub track. ("Lunch room" refers to where the KCSHS has lunch on the "frozen weed" weekend each year.)

This is the train sitting in the clear on the passing track at Page, OK.

In Heavener, OK we found this KCS "Retro Belle" and the DPU for a loaded UP unit coal train at the fueling facility.

The lead units were parked in front of the yard office, former CTC building in Heavener.

I was driving down St. Charles Street and saw this street car approaching in the rear view mirror.

I then parked on Robert St., the street where the Chase branch that our daughter Virginia works and got this picture of another St. Charles Street car.

New Orleans Public Belt

After taking the shot above, I picked up daughter Virginia, who arranged the tour, and we headed to the New Orleans Public Belt locomotvie shops for our tour. The shops is located in the 1925 roundhouse which was damaged and repaired following Hurricane Katrina. Here we see one of the units in for repairs to its Catepiler diesel engine. This was the cleanest shop/service facility I have ever seen.

Here we see a string of NOPB locos.

The shop manager told us that they will service any railroads locomotives. Here we see some NS locos.

Here we see the turntable that has been converted from electric power to compressed air power.

Here we see all of the NOPS locos on the ready track.

The business car "Louisiana" was on its storage track with sun screen.

After dropping off Virginia at her work, I went back to shoot some St. Charles Street cars. This one was at Robert and St. Charles. Note it was the same car I shot in the mirror.

I purposefully darkened the exposure to make the bright LEDs stand out for counting. There are 20 of them.

I wanted to see the progress on the Huey P. Long Bridge in NOLA so I drove to the sunny side of the bridge. I noticed a person taking pictures but I thought it was just the bridge. I then noticed that Amtrak was crossing.

On my way back to Virginia's apartment, I was stopped on Central Ave. by this train led by 2 NS units and 4 UP units, DIT.

The New Orleans Pulic Belt freight house at Central Ave. appears to be nearing completion.

This is the other end of the NOPB freight house, taken from the end of the Huey P. Long Bridge.

These SW1500s were at the east end of the KCS yard in NOLA.

This train was at the west end of the KCS yard.

While waiting on Amtrak #58 "City of New Orleans", this NOPB train is seen passing East Bridge Jct. and then crosses Central Ave. on its way to the Huey P. Long Bridge.

At 1:55pm, #58, 10 minutes out of New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal, is seen approaching and crossing Central Ave.

About the time Amtrak arrived, the workman seen on top of the water car had it connected via a fire hose to the faucet out of sight to the right and was spraying water from the nozzle.
