On Feb. 11, 2008, this BNSF unit coal train was heading east in Memphis at White siding on the NS.

On May 30, 2008, this UP train was sitting on one of the CSX tracks in Memphis. About where the autoracks are sitting is the former location of the NC&StL suburban station Lenox.

The following images were all taken on June 1, 2008

The first moving train of the day was this unit coal train headed by BNSF #8973. There were 2 on the point and three operating as DPUs.

This UP freight headed by # 9525 is headed to the IC Johnston Yard, thus crossing over the BNSF to get to the IC wye. The DUPX tank car is one of 4 which are returning to the DuPont plant at Woodstock, TN for another load of anhydrous, gaseous hydrogen fluoride.

While the UP train was crossing over the BNSF mainlines, this west bound unit auto train pulled up to the signals for CN Jct. Then, for no apparent reason, the UP train sitting on the westbound NS line turned on its head and ditch lights. That train had already sat there for over 30 minutes and would not move for over another two hours. In the third image, the BNSF has turned on its ditch lights and is preparing to move. Note that the signal over the other BNSF track has now changed to approach.

The BNSF #783 pulled up to the red signal at Shelco to await an eastbound that the dispatcher said was on the single track. The UP #4074 had pulled up to the signals at Y378 to await a track on Broadway before it proceeded. The conductor got off and headed to the nearby convenience store for refreshments. Looking down Broadway, we see that the westbound UP train has its ditch lights off again.

In the meantime the eastbound BNSF unit taconite train with #4838 in the lead has made it to Shelco. The UP train has once again turned on its ditch lights as the BNSF train passes the former location of the Kentucky Street "tower". Included among the BNSF hoppers were three ex-Frisco hopper, two pictured here. As the #5879 acting as DPU passed, it is obvious that the UP train has once again turned off its ditch lights.

BNSF #783 finally got a green over red and headed west after the taconite train passed.

As the UP train on the eastbound NS and the taconite train on the BNSF head east, a NS #6741, still in Conrail colors, leads a transfer around the east leg of the wye at CN Jct. on its way to the IC Johnston Yard.

After sitting for 3 hours, UP #9670 finally started to move west as a CN-IC transfer heads for the east leg of the wye at CN Jct just as a dark cloud approaches. As the transfer continues around the wye and the UP crosses the CN-IC, the signal on the north BNSF track changes to approach indicating another east bound. As the UP train approached the former Kentucky Street crossing, the engineer started blowing his horn, more than would have been required if the street crossing were still open, continuing alongside of the condos.

The approach signal was for this BNSF unit coal train led by #6160. While the coal train was passing, the UP east bound began moving toward Broadway. As the coal train's DPU passed, a westbound BNSF freight appeared at CN Jct.

The west bound BNSF #1061 with a general merchandize train is seen headed west. The lead unit was photographed a week earlier in New Orleans crossing the Huey P. Long bridge.
