Jan and I had a meeting in Muskogee. After the meeting I dropped Jan at the Public library, and I headed to the parking lot where the MKT station once stood. This vehicle train was my first action.

The dispatcher reported to a north bound train, that they could head north as soon as the south bound passed. The south bound made it to my site a few minutes later.

Oct. 17, 2013

I had the program for the Boston Mountain Chapter of the NRHS meeting in Springdale. I left early to get some photos at the A&M and thanks Brenda Rouse for making the A&M the sponsor of my program at the Clayton House in September. I found this power at the new engine house.

The power for the Monett turn is sitting at the fueling station.

Brenda pointed out to me that the Heisman Trophy was on display in the A&M station parking lot. I went over and took a view and then found this young boy possing for a picture

The A&M was having a wine and food tasting party on the parlor car as I took this photo of their passenger equipment.

I then went back to the new shop building and got this shot of the new SD70ACe #70.

I also got this shot of new 71.

I also shot these other units outside the new shop. Note that the bells are removed from these C420s.

While Jan was making a pastoral visit at the hospital, I headed to the A&M shops in Springdale to see what was happening. I found this C420 going to work on the north end of the shop area. Note the new foundation for some new building north of the new shop.

The absence of the bell above the headlight makes me believe that this unit is being used for a parts supply for the other C420s and will eventually be scrapped. That is sad since this was the first C420 completely rebuilt by the A&M in 1988.

A&M SD70ACe #71 is seen between the other 2 new ACes, #70 on the north end and #72 on the south end.

Jan needed to make another pastoral visit at the Springdale hospital, so we headed there on our way to Kansas City. I headed to the A&M shops after I dropped her off. The first thing I got was one of the C424s.

I then heard the Ft Smith Turn returning from its trip south and shot it first passing the passenger station in Springdale.

I gave chase and caught the train preparing to switch at their first yard north of the shops.

Upon arriving at Union Station in Kansas City, MO, I discovered Iowa Pacific "Caritas" and two former ATSF busiess cars on the private car track.

KCS #34 is seen on display on the track level at Union Station.

Private car ATSF #37 "Chico" is see at Union Station in Kansas City.

This former business car is seen witht he Caritas and Chico at Union Station.

The 3 private cars are then seen from the Mike Haverty Bridge to the Frieght Station over the tracks.

My first train was this intermodal led by BNSF #5432. That is no joke about the unit number!

My second train was this "brown worm" headed by BNSF 6543 and a CP unit. YES, it was another "count down" unit number! Two trains in a row with "count down" numbers. WEIRD!!!!
The west bound then meets this east bound

One neat thing about this site is that each of the three tracks has signals in BOTH directions visible from the bridge. There is no reason to be surprised if you pay attention to the signals. That said, SURPRISE!!! This CSX led a west bound freight while our east bound is still passing.

The next train was another westbound intermodal.

The next train appears to be a grain train

Next came a UP westbound intermodal.

Next was an eastbound BNSF intermodal train.

The former MP station in Independence, MO is now the Amtrak depot. I dropped by it after our visit to the Truman Library.

This former MP caboose was on the station grounds.

We then headed to Union Station so Jan could see the business cars parked there. This eastbound UP loaded unit coal train appeared while we were there.

We then headed to the KCT roundhouse to shoot the ex CGW/KCS RPO-baggage #6 on the turntable.

This shows the 2 levels of approaches to the bridge over the Kansas River west of Union Station.

While we were there, a south bound UP train approached on the tracks of the lowest level.

Oct. 24, 2013

I went by the Amtrak station hoping to catch the eastbound "Missouri River Runner" but missed it by about 10 minutes.

On my way to Union Station, I found this hillside site overlooking the flyover at the east side of town. There was a vehicle train parked on the bridge when I arrived with an eastbound loaded unit coal train passing it.

This vehicle train was sitting on the flyover when I arrived. It finally started moving.

This eastbound general freight is then seen crossing the flyover.

I finally got to Union Station in time to shoot the DPU for a BNSF brown worm.

The next train was an eastbound intermodal train.

A KCT freight is then seen passing my Union Station location.

I headed inside for a few minutes to warm up. Note the listing the "Flying Crow".

This is the view of the concourse is looking south.

This story of the bridge to the Freight House area is just inside Union Station from the bridge itself.

This loaded unit coal train is seen approaching KC Union Station.

Here is another eastbound intermodal BNSF train.

This is the first time that I had seen Herzog track testing equipment.

This UP westbound was a general freight.
Not all of the railfans on the bridge were adults, some were even in strollers.

I went in to warm up again and took this shot of the large scale Atlantic on display in the former main waiting room.

The KCT freight is now seen returning from the east.

This eastbound intermodal was the next BNSF freight.

Then we got this westbound intermodal.

The 7 hour late "Southwest Chief" finally shows.

While the Amtrak was in station, this BNSF light engine movement passed the station.

The Amtrak sleeper "George M Pullman" was in the consist of the "Southwest Chief".
The "Southwest Chief" is then seen leaving the station.

An eastbound general freight is the next offering from the Union Pacific.
A westbound intermodal on the BNSF surprised me and I did not get a coming shot.

This eastbound loaded unit coal train is working hard as it approaches Union Staation.
Before meeting the westbound "Missouri River Runner" as it arrives at Union Station.
After Amtrak stops the DPU on the unit coal train comes blasting past, shaking the bridge.

The locomotive for Amtrak is then seen sitting in Union Station.

I then headed to the area around the KCT roundhouse where I found a southbound UP freight coming around the track from across the Kansas River.

I reshot the CGW/KCS RPO-baggage combine on the turntable at the KCT roundhouse.
I then shot the KCT roundhouse.

I then shot Amtrak from the bridge on the south leg of the wye in preparation to turning.

I then headed east to the Amtrak station in Independence, MO to shoot the eastbound "Missouri River Runner".

As I headed east from the station, I discovered the former Chicago & Alton station now used as a museum.
