For a short vacation away from Tahlequah, we chose to spend 3 days in Tulsa. At Wagoner, I noted a signal for a south bound freight on the former MP line, so we headed to the Wagoner Hot Spot.

We then continued on to Tulsa. After dropping Jan off at Braum's across from the Genealogy Center of the Tulsa Public Library System, I headed to the Cherokee Yard Hot Spot. This is my action just south of the 17th Street crossing. This trimmer set is seen under the 23rd Street overpass.

Next up was this trimmer set.

And then this one again.

Then this trimmer appeared with a long string of cars before pushing them back into the yard.

The next movement involved these WAMX locos on a train off the Stillwater Central, former Frisco line form Tulsa to Oklahoma City, heading to the South Kansas and Oklahoma which connects to the BNSF in downtown Tulsa.

This trimmer set made another appearance with a different cut of cars.

Our trimmer set is now seen beyond the 23rd Street overpass along with a couple of other sets of power.

This set of yard units is seen returning with a string of tank cars from the oil facility east of Cherokee Yard along the bank of the Arkansas River.

This switcher set is seen northbound as a westbound intermodal train from the Cherokee Sub heading for the Avard Sub.

The intermodal train is then seen heading out the Avard Sub by taking the north leg of the wye.

This trimmer set then couples to those tank cars which it brought to the yard a little earlier.

This lone GE then appeared from the east.

The next movement was this eastbound freight.

A trimmer set is seen meeting a power consist turning on the wye which leads to the Avard Sub.

Next was this westbound freight coming off the Cherokee Sub and entering the Cherokee Yard receiving tracks.

A trimmer set is seen coupled to a string of tank cars.

The power for the previously seen westbound is seen heading east before it returns heading for the engine terminal.

The leased switcher for the refinery is seen from Southwest Blvd, looking through the piers of the US75/I-244 overpass just east of the 17th Street crossing.

Sept. 13, 2012
On this date I turned 70!!!!!!!

On my birthday, I headed trackside even though it was cloudy. My first rain was this westbound with 4 B-B units, 2 GEs and 2 EMDs.

These 4 SD40s are seen leaving the classification yard. It then meets the westbound intermodal for the west coacst.

The westbound intermodal changes crew at the 17th Street crossing and then heads around the west leg of the wye.
Note the extra set of air cylinders on the trucks of the middle unit which can be used to lift the middle axle off the track at speed.
At the end of the intermodal was a string of pig flats including a couple of FedEx Multimodal trailers as well as others.

This tank car and caboose are now part of the US66 Park on Southwest Bld east of the hump of Cherokee Yard.

I then decided to drive down to Sapulpa and look at the Tulsa Sapulpa Union railroad shops and the BNSF line from Texas. I barely arrived before spotting a northbound on the BNSF.

Across the street from the TSU shops, I found this engine.

Back at Cherokee Yard I found this westbound heading into the yard.

The next move was by a trimmer set.

Then a dust storm appeared in the form of a track gang.

This power set dropped their train and is now heading to the engine terminal.

After the meet this trimmer set continues north.

This long string of units then appears and heads into the receiving yard.
Including in the consist is one of the A-1-A GEs.
A SD40 was the rear unit in the consist.

This trimmer set then made a move.

On our way to the Gilchrease Museum, we spent a few minutes at Cherokee Yard where we caught this trimmer set heading east.

A westbound freight is headed by one of the A-1-A GEs.
