From July 21-24 I attended the 2011 Train Festival in and around Rock Island, IL
After arriving about 1 PM on Thursday I participated in or photographed many of the events shown in this abbreviated schedule:
Thursday, July 21 (Opening Day)
10 AM – Rock Island Express leaves Chicago (arrives Rock Island late, about 6PM)
11 AM, 2 PM – Daily 2 hour excursions to Walcott, with various steam locos
6 PM – 2 ˝ hour River Boat Dinner Cruise (Thursday thru Saturday)
Friday, July 22
10 AM – Bureau Rail Express (All-day excursion with NKP 765)
11 AM, 2 PM – 1 ˝ hour scenic boat cruise (two each day, Friday and Saturday)
11 AM, 2 PM – Daily 2 hour steam excursions to Walcott, as above (also Saturday & Sunday)
Saturday, July 23
Iowa City Steam Adventure (All day excursion with QJ 2-10-2 6988)
Sunday, July 24
10 AM – Zephyr Express (all day excursion to Bureau with “Nebraska Zephyr” consist)
