Front-Range Explorers
Depot Album

Photos by Dave Ingles

When one travels on Amtrak, it is difficult to photograph depots, which my late father started doing a half century ago, and I continued. Consequently I have a large collection of depot slides, and in the digital age I’ve built up a moderate collection of similar depot images. But when you’re on a private car on Amtrak, with Dutch-door privileges, it opens up opportunities for decent depot views, whether your train stops there or breezes by. This album is presented in chronological order, from May 29 to June 7, 2016. In most instances, where possible, I also shot a slide. A few times I shot only a slide, especially if I knew I hadn’t taken a slide there before; Marshall, Texas, T&P, is a prime example. From Fort Worth onward, travel was on BNSF exclusively; from Chicago to there it was on UP’s former GM&O, MoPac, and Texas & Pacific main lines. Images are identified by community or depot name, date, and “historic” railroad owner, if not builder. -- Dave Ingles
