Arkansas & Missouri
Biloxi Blues Filming

Savanah & Atlantic #750 is seen in Memphis on June 17, 1987. It is not there for an excursion of the "Sentimental Journey as in the past. It is headed to the Arkansas & Missouri to star in the film "Biloxi Blues".

The engine is next seen being pulled by a UP locomotive approaching Kentucky Street tower in Memphis as it heads towards the Mississippi River bridge. A business car brings up the rear, providing accommodations for the steam crew.

The "troop train" stopped for lunch in Winslow during the filming of Biloxi Blues. This picture appeared in the News Photos section of the November 1987 issue of Trains magazine. My shot was taken on June 20, 1987.

Long time friend David McDonald is seen boarding the "pusher" on the rear of the "Biloxi Blues" troop train in Winslow just before it headed south.

I then repositioned myself to the cut at the north end of the Winslow tunnel to catch the train southbound.

I then caught the train passing my high school in Van Buren. I started hanging out at this spot when I started junior high school when the Frisco still had a motor car shed at this location. In steam days the Frisco water tank was just to the right of the tree.

I next caught the train climbing the grade from the Arkansas River bridge past the Waldron Street crossing. Look at those guys on the pusher waving.

I next caught the train approaching the 6th Street crossing.

The train is then seen arriving at the yard office at North Yard.

The locomotive was then sent south to the wye at the industrial park in south Ft. Smith where the passenger train once was turned.

Did you notice that the closing view of the train crossing the Arkansas River bridge is reversed!
