Historic Scanned Slides
by Mike Condren

This slide was shot in Ft. Smith on the former Frisco on Dec. 29, 1986 when the A&M was just starting and used EMD GP40s in addition to C420s as seen here.

This slide was taken during the preparation for the A&M article which appeared in the Nov. 1987 Trains magazine. It is of a southbound freight about to pass under the US71 overpass just south of the Fayette Jct. yard in south Fayetteville, AR and was taken on May 26, 1987.

This slide was taken in Springdale on Oct. 13, 1987 of a VIP special.
This slide was taken in West Fork, AR on Oct. 13, 1987.

This is a railfan special on Oct. 14, 1987 stopped at the south end of the tunnel at Winslow, AR,
The man looking at the camera is Frank Bryan, author of the Nov. 1987 article in Trains about the A&M.
We then pulled across trestle #1 before the engine backed out onto the trestle.
We stopped south of Rudy along this bluff.
This is the bridge across the Arkansas River.
On the return trip, I got this shot of the Van Buren former Frisco depot.

During my fall 1988 sabattical at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, I spent a lot of time in Springdale at the A&M and got to know the Hannolds. I got word of this passenger movement coming out of the tunnel at Winslow on Oct. 15, 1988.
I caught the train at Woolsey south of West Fork.
